Scuderia's trademark toughness, and some Declan Bates magic, have combined for the speedy mare to win Friday night's $130k Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge Final at The Valley.
The daughter of SQUAMOSA, purchased as a foal for just $2500 by head owner Martin Falvey, has been a revelation over the 955 metre course, winning three of her four starts over the trip going into the final.
With her solitary 955m defeat coming in the only race she was unable to find the rail, and plenty of speed drawn inside her on Friday, Bates left nothing to chance, immediately sending SCUDERIA straight to the front.
She travelled well but was never left alone by Unflinching, who co-led and was perhaps travelling a shade better around the bend.
But entering the straight, Bates' early tactics paid off, as the mare railed like a greyhound and got a neck clear at the furlong pole.
With the rest of the field labouring, Unflinching kept coming but Scuderia kept responding, winning by a head in a rapid 54.70 seconds.
The victory had a distinctly Irish feel to it, Falvey, Carberry and Bates all hail from the far-away, but equally racing-obsessed nation, as do a fair few of the ecstatic owners.
But there was no luck of the Irish involved in the win, it was all grit.
Bates outlined his admiration for his mount post-race, and was thrilled to get the prize for a stable he holds close to his heart.
"This mare, she's just a legend, you know? All credit to Tommy and Monique," he told racing.com.
"For Tommy to bring her back here every time and present her in this order, it's just outstanding training to be honest."
"I was a bit concerned in the run that we were doing a bit too much, but she's just so tough, I've never seen her blow so hard when she was coming back."
"Tommy and Monique, they're good mates of ours, they've been very good to me and my wife Jennifer, and our families… I'll get emotional talking about it!"
Carberry was delighted with the victory, with most of the owners trackside for Scuderia's best win yet.
"I'm very proud of her, she's been up for so long and she really got her act together in the 955," he said during his racing.com interview.
"She really stuck her head down in the straight and really battled… last time she just got caught out late and didn't know how to put her head down, but she did it today."
"So proud of everyone on the team, Martin and all his mates, they're all here tonight and they're all just ripping it up!"
"Moonee Valley is such a great racecourse to come to, it entertains the owners, it's a brilliant place and we love it."
And while she may have missed the series' 55k prize by a mere .06 seconds, Carberry said they would be coming back for another crack at it next season.
"I'll take the win, but we'll be back next year!" he said.
"She's done so well, there's no reason to push her any harder to go any further in trip, at the moment anyway."
